The Walrus is one of our newest entry level robots to the line of educational robotic rover kits.  This kit comes unassembled.  The purpose of this robot kit is to teach the student about microcontroller programming, reading a schematic, interfacing the parts of the kit, and completing tasks.  The primary lessons of this kit are:

LCD or OLED Displays:
Interacts between the controller to a user by LCD or OLED display.  This robot kit can operate automatically by loading the controller with the appropriate code. The LCD and OLED allows us to quickly show information while not connected to the PC.

Random Dance:
Programmable speed and direction. This kit is driven by two wheels and a gliding roller bearing.

Scribble:
Uses a servo to engage a pen.  The pen will mark the robot's route on paper or poster board.  This function allows the robot to produce graphics similar to a spirograph.

Ultrasonic and Touch Obstacle Avoidance:
Can avoid obstacles by using motor speed/direction controls, an ultrasonic module, and two switches (to act as touch sensors). The robot measures distance using the ultrasonic signals while moving forward. If an obstacle is detected in range, the robot can adjust the direction and move away. If the ultrasonic sensor is not able to detect an obsticle, the robot will collide with the touch sensors and correct its direction.

Bluetooth Communications:
Can be controlled by a standard application on the Android Phone, iPhone, smart tablets, or PC

Photoresistor:
The rover can be programmed to read two photoresistors.  The intensity of light is received be each photoresistor and sent to the controller as an analog signal.  The robot can be programmed to use this signal to search for light... or run away.

Suggested Accessories:
* IR Remote control and IR receiver - Using matching remote control, the robot be commanded to move forward, backward, turn left, turn right and stop.
* Wifi Communications ESP8266 - Robot can be controlled by software on the Android Phone, iPhone, smart tablets, or PC
* Infrared Line Tracking Attachment to allow the robot to follow a path or not leave the edge of an area
